Two US churches in reopened states forced to close after faith leaders and congregants get coronavirus

Texas -Catoosa Baptist Tabernacle in Ringgold, Georgia, less than 20 miles away from Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Houston have indefinitely cancelled services after members and leaders tested positive for the coronavirus shortly after opening.

One of the churches had to stop all services as one of its priests, Reverent Donnel Kirchner, died of what is believed to Covid-19.

The news of the cancelled services comes just after a new report from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said that large gatherings pose risk for coronavirus transmission and called on faith-based organisation to work with local health officials about implementing guidelines for modified activities.

The number of congregants and their families who tested positive for coronavirus forced Catoosa Baptist Tabernacle to close its doors. Around 25% of the church members attended the church service, but that did not help them in preventing the spread of the virus.

Churches are, however, at the forefront of reopening efforts are closing their doors for a second time.
