Gavin Hunt says he joined Chippa United for the “massive challenge” the job presents to him.

The former Kaizer Chiefs coach was announced as the Chilli Boys’ next coach on Wednesday, replacing Lehlohonolo Seema who has since joined Golden Arrows.

Hunt, who previously led SuperSport United (three times) and Bidvest Wits (once) to PSL league titles, was sacked by Chiefs two matches before the conclusion of the recent DStv Premiership season in which he was unable to make any player signings as a result of a FIFA transfer ban.

“I see this as a massive challenge, and one that really excites me,” Hunt said.

“The Eastern Cape as a region is where so many fantastic South African sportsmen and women hail from and this area certainly deserves a successful football club that the locals can be proud of.

“The facilities here are outstanding and the passion of the people, both in the province and at the club is amazing. I can’t wait to start working again.”

Chippa United ended the 2020/21 DStv Premiership campaign in 15th place and only secured their top-flight status via the playoffs.

The team only won five matches last season and finished just four points ahead of bottom-placed Black Leopards who were relegated.
