Former Proteas fast bowler Dale Steyn will join the Sunrisers Hyderabad coaching staff in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Sunrisers Hyderabad announced a new-look management team on Thursday ahead of next year’s tournament with several experienced veterans selected -Steyn included.
The changes come after the Sunrisers slumped to bottom spot in the final IPL standings this season – recording just three wins – after having finished third the year before, second in 2018 and triumphing in 2016.
Dale Steyn, who has played Hyderabad franchise from 2011 to 2015, will make his coaching debut in what will be the 15th edition of the IPL.
The 38-year-old South African speedster retired from all forms of cricket in August this year, bringing an end to his IPL career.
All told, he played 95 matches and took 97 wickets at a handy average of 25.85.
Steyn has been named Hyderabad’s pace bowling coach with Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan in charge of the spinners.
