Arts Minister says R300m not missing but ‘allocated incorrectly’

South Africa

Johannesburg – Budget mismanagement has been identified within the National Arts Council (NAC) seemingly as a result of catering to the loss of income that artists experienced due to the lockdown.

According to Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa, the R300-million allocated to the NAC is not missing but was rather allocated incorrectly by the Council.

Creates have been camping at the NAC headquarters in Johannesburg for weeks, demanding answers to this debacle in the employment stimulus programme.

A forensic probe is set to get underway soon.
